Dr. Poer in Siberia!

Making his second trip to Russia this February, Dr Poer treated patients and taught Russian dental students as part of a Christian dental ministry through Centennial Bible Church and Slovic Gospel Association (SGA).

In previous trips, treatment was performed in makeshift rooms at the local church using portable dental equipment. This year we were invited to practice at the local dental school. This allowed an opportunity to share modern techniques and materials in the interest of students, faculty, and administrators, while treating orphans, locals and Christian brothers and sisters. But more importantly, we were able to share the love of Christ!

Special Olympics

Dr. Poer volunteered at the 40th Annual Special Olympics at South Grove Golf Course in Indianapolis on August 22nd. The athletes participated in golf skills competition that included short putting, long putting, chipping and driving. Thankfully, Dr. Poer did not offer any golf tips, he simply kept score! His daughter Addison was once again along for comic relief!

Dear Dr. Poer,

I just had to let you know how wonderful I am feeling now that I have my wonderful smile back. I used to find myself not smiling or hiding my mouth with my hand when I laughed or smiled. Either that or I would just make a slight grin. I was very embarrassed by my teeth. It was not that they were not pretty teeth, but they were so discolored. I felt they made me look old and that they were a turn off for others to look at when I smiled.

Well, I finally listened not only to my husband but to myself and you helped put the smile back on my face. I go around all day looking for reasons to smile and laugh. Sometimes I find myself smiling for no reason other than I want my teeth to be seen. My only regret is I didn't do this sooner.

Boar, badger and horse hair were used for toothbrush bristles but were later found to be abrasive and harsh.

Dr. Poer performs oral health screens for the adults and children that attended Centennial Bible Church's Hispanic VBS in July.

His daughter Addison was along for comedy relief!

The oral health screenings helped identify oral conditions that required treatment and provided information on dental offices and clinics to help address their needs.

This evening, Dr Poer will be providing dental screenings at Centennial Bible Church for this week's Hispanic VBS. This outreach to the Westfield hispanic community will help children and families new to this area receive a limited oral exam, raise their awareness of oral health and determine if more immediate care is needed.

But most importantly, we hope they will find a loving church home.
